Course objectives: Fact of life? Or wishful thinking?
I believe that is wishful thinking on the state’s part. Teachers try to develop and teach according to the standards set by the state, but overcrowded classrooms and mainstreaming of students sometimes interfere with these objectives. I think a teacher should set the objectives they want to meet using what state objectives they can. Once a class has begun then these objectives may need to be altered. Teachers need to be flexible and sometimes sticking to the objectives hinders the learning process. Course objectives are necessary in order to set the direction for class teaching and learning. Just be prepared to be thrown off course once in awhile.
LectureWare
Lectureware works in business, I see no reason why it wouldn’t work in a classroom. Ellunimate and SecondLife are excellent sources. I do believe I like second life better. I am really into the 3d.

I an still a unsure how to create a Wiki, but I would love to create something like this flatclassroom. I was reading my classmates blogs and found this in one of Gloria’s post. I visited this site and I think everyone would enjoy this. Rccola stated that a Wiki could easily be abused, I agree, but anything with the web can easily be abused. Students today are very creative aned I think sometimes just look for ways to prove they are smarter and can outdo adults. In most cases they are right, that is why teachers need to monitor and stay on top of their activites. I think a wiki is a way to bring more diverse information to the students.
MUD, MUSH, and MOO
I read everyone’s blog and then went and visited a few sites. I have always tried using games in class to try to motivate and get students more involved in the class and learning. It seems that students are so used to sitting and have a lesson given to them. These interactive tools would allow students the ability to be involved and enjoy learning in a way that they can relate to. I am not sure how parents and administrators would feel about these games in a classroom. I know my preception of the games before this class were not positive, but if used correcftly they could be very productive. I am unsure how I would use them or how to create one. I do plan on learning more.

I agree with Tippi that public schools are not free. We pay taxes and then we supply so many materials for the classroom and then for trips and any other thing that may be needed. There are so many kids that arrival home before their parents and begin taking care of their siblings, that they lose focus or do not feel the importance of education. Then you have some many other kids in so many activities they don’t have time to think of their studies. Today’s kids are so overwhelmed with running other responsibilities they don’t have time or value their education as they should.
Gizmo vs Skype
This compares the two and from reading I believe that Gizmo would be the better of the two. Gizmo gives more features and crosses ovber whereas Skype does not. These devices would be better if it was more live and not just leaving messages. I would not know how to use these this type of tool in the classroom. I suppose in a distance learning environment it could be used as a communication tool between students and educator.
Toolbox addition « Barbaranantz’s Weblog
Toolbox addition « Barbaranantz’s Weblog I have added edu20.org to my list of tools for my toolbox. I see how this could be an asset to teachers, but I am not sure I would use it as a classroom. There are so many sites available for setting up classes, it makes it hard to chose which would be more beneficial and productive, without actually trying them out.
Oddessey. Join the evolution.
I visited this site earlier and went thru the process of setting up a 3d room. It was not hard, although the site was experiencing some difficulties, so I plan to go back and try it again. I could see students getting creative with this. Imagine letting students create the room they are to learn in. It puts a whole new meaning to learning. Students would actually become involved in where and how they are learning. The possiblities here are endless. Not only will they learn after they create the room but while they are creating. I read some of my classmates blogs on 3d and I with jarnett’s comment about letting the students create and act out different events or stories. The fun students could have with Hamlet or any historical event, if they could act it out without being in front of their peers. They could actually concentrate on the material without stage fright. More students would actually participate.

This is one tool I forgot to list on my toolbox list. I have this saved in my gator. I have always thought my vocabulary needed improved. I found this site one way when randoming searching for new stuff for my gator. Imagine that you can actually find cool stuff when you look for it. I may not use most of these words but I love building my vocabulary. I feel students need this type of exposure and this can be used for daily activities. I think everyone could benefit from this site and use some vocabulary building.
The Lost Library of MOO
This was my first time visiting this site. I have to say this has been a difficult task. I logged on the site and read through several things and began thinking I was at the wrong place. I then read several of my classmates blogs and felt a little better knowing that I wasn’t the only one. I went back to the site and read The Cow Ate My Brain
because that was how I felt at that time. This article gives an introduction on MOO and gives someone using Moo for the first time an understanding(although brief) of how MOO works. I did not understand all the jargon used in this article but I do have a little better understanding of how to use MOO. Although, I am not sure this is something I will ever be able to use effectively. I must agree with Gloria when she stated that sometimes you have to work and dig a little harder for research. I too would have given up on this site if it had not been an assignment.
